This led to the New York Botanical Garden being established on April of 1891, occupying a plot of land on the Lorillard estate. Many different departments incorporated themselves into the garden, helping raise over $200,000 to establish both the conservatory and a library. The construction of the New York Botanical Garden was also backed by prominent financial and civic leaders such as Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and even J.P. Morgan!
