Prospect Park was established during the late 1860’s and was designed by the same people who designed Central Park. Throughout the years the park would undergo numerous redesigns and refurbishments in order to both modernize the park and clean it up. A new waterway would be built through the park, making use of the preexisting ponds and lowland out-wash plains in order to make a drainage. Today, the park is the sight of beautiful natural sceneries that are worth a visit.

Visitors can even rent a kayak or a pedal boat to take a cruise around the Prospect Park Lake.

New York’s Most Recognizable Museum: The Guggenheim Museum

Solomon R. Guggenheim was the founder of the museum and focused on the appreciation of modern art and all its varieties. He met European avant-garde artist Hilla Von Rebay who helped him establish his own “museum”. Initially there was no official building to display Guggenheims collection, instead displaying it at his own apartment in the Plaza Hotel.

Guggenheims collection began to draw in more visitors, soon artist began to sell and even give Guggenheim their work in order for him to display. It was the establishment of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation that helped thrust art into the spotlight.

The foundation first opened under the name “The Museum of Non-Objective Painting” lasting until the early 1940’s.

Eventually Guggenheim’s art collection had become grand enough to warrant its own building. Guggenheim and Rebay would then write a letter to legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright in hopes he would design the building.

Frank Lloyd Wright accepted the job and took it as an opportunity to experiment with his organic style in an urban environment. It took Wright 15 years to come up with the final design of the Guggenheim building, sadly Solomon R. Guggenheim passed away 1949, 10 Years before the building was officially completed.

Guggenheim’s passing led to his foundation renaming the museum, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

Wright’s design for The Guggenheim was the first of its kind, buildings at the time were designed with interconnected rooms that would be reached through stair cases, forcing visitors to retrace their steps in order to exit the building.

The Guggenheim Museum was more of a slope, one where upon entering you would go up an elevator and then descend via the slope slowly admiring the different pieces of art presented to you.

New York’s Third Busiest Airport.

New York’s Redeveloped Airport: LaGuardia

Outdated facilities, lack of cleanliness, a cramped building, and poor customer service would cause LaGuardia to be ranked among the worst airports until about 2016

Built in 1929 and covering over 600 acres of land LaGuardia Airport has quickly rose to one of the busiest airports in the world. Located in East Elmhurst the airport is used by New York, New Jersey, and even Connecticut residents. LaGuardia had also gone through a redevelopment that was completed as recently as 2023. This was a much needed modernization as LaGuardia was considered the least upkept airport of the main 3 in NYC.

Prior to the construction of LaGuardia airport the surrounded land was used as a summer resort development. The resort featured; beaches, lawns, boathouses, and even bathing pavilions. The resort was German influenced and drew similarities to Brooklyn’s Coney Island.

Sadly prohibition on alcohol and anti German sentiment pushed out residents leaving the resort practically abandoned. Soon the area was industrialized, polluting the water and surrounding beaches.

The New York Air Terminals saw the potential land and made plans to build a seaplane base in 1929. Upon its inception the airport held a grand opening that featured air races, “flying” boats, and even a speech from George U. Harvey.

LaGuardia airport has recently finished a major remodeling project that improved conditions for all terminals and the airport itself. Terminal A now serves Spirit, and Frontier Airlines. Terminal B has multiple airlines operating out of the terminal such as; American Airlines, JetBlue, Air Canada, Southwest, and United Airlines. Terminal C is exclusively used by WestJet, and Delta.

Most terminals now contain their own collection of small shops and restaurants in case you need to pass the time or are in the mood to do a little shopping.

The new Terminal C is also host to Delta Airline’s largest Sky Club of the airport.

Now a days most black car services will find you inside the terminal, help you with your luggage, and make sure you have a safe and comfortable ride.

LaGuardia has also recently built a new collection of gates to accommodate for more flyers. This can often make it easy to get lost while navigating the airport, luckily most New York limo or car services negate this by offering a Meet and Greet service inside the terminal.

New York City has so many taxi services available that the only difficult part is choosing the right car service for you!

Wall Street West and all its Wonders.

Exchange Place: Jersey City’s very own Wall St.

There’s no doubt that New York is home to some of the Tri-State areas most important companies and neighborhoods however recently, there’s been another city on the rise to the west. New Jersey has quickly been adopted into the New York greater metropolis and for good reason. Jersey City’s close proximity to Manhattan has allowed for the city to blossom in both art, culture, and of course finance.

Jersey City is now curating its own culture, even developing its own art district that mirrors its neighbor to the east. Though without a doubt New Jersey’s major addition is Jersey City’s finance center “Exchange Place“.

Originally the sight of railyards and industrial warehouses it’s now home to one of the east coasts key financial and transportation hubs

1838 to 1892 the Pennsylvania Railroad would purchase and remodel the terminal, expanding it into one of the most important transportation centers on the East Coast.

Originally developed as a transportation hub as far back as the mid-1700’s the name Exchange Place would be coined by local streetcars in order to better identify the location. Then in 1812 ferry service was established leading to a massive influx of commuters.

Sadly at the turn of the century business at Exchange Place began to dwindle, construction of the Holland and Lincoln tunnel caused business to move to Journal Square. Soon rail lines were replaced by bus routes, ferry service would be discontinued in 1949 and finally train service was suspended in 1961.

The decline of Exchange Place’s popularity was actually a blessing a disguise as it allowed for the Jersey City to embrace its potential as a waterfront.

Not all private buyers tore up the railroads, PATH renovated their portion of railyards in order to better serve commuters.

The large terminal previously occupying Exchange Place was soon deemed outdated. Small portions of land were sold to different buyers with 5 acres being given to the city. Railyards were torn up and the area was cleared for a potential business district. soon the area would become one of the most populated areas in Jersey City.

Jersey City’s waterfront was revitalized during the 1980s with many of its buildings being built in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Exchange Place features a number of restaurants littered across the neighborhood with some of them being located in hotels.

Exchange Place is also packed with street level restaurants like; Del Frisco’s Grille, Cava, and even a ramen spot, Anu Ramen House.

Exchange Place may be home to multiple restaurants and retail stores but it also has a number of Cafes to visit.

While it may house the typical Starbucks and Dunkin it also has more personal cafes like Mod Cup and Gregory’s Coffee.

With so many activities to do in the district the only thing left is finding transportation to Exchange Place.
